What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects focus, impulse control, and activity levels.

It can present in different ways, including difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. ADHD can impact many areas of life, including education, work, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.

Our ADHD Assessment Service

We provide thorough, evidence-based ADHD assessments for adults, using internationally recognised gold-standard diagnostic tools:

  • The Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults (DIVA V)

  • Standardised Behavioural Rating Scales

  • Neurodevelopmental & Psychosocial History

  • Cognitive and Executive Functioning Measures (where appropriate)

Our approach strictly follows SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network) and NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) recommendations to ensure diagnostic accuracy and best practice.

What's included:

  • 60 min Pre-Assessment Consultation (PAC) can be conducted remotely or in-person if preferred.  Self report questionnaires will be completed with the clinician alongside a psychosocial assessment with developmental history.  At the end of the session, recommendations will be made on whether full assessment is beneficial for you. *PAC appointment are for screening purposes and can be held without commiting to a full assessment - Screening for ADHD.
  • Additional questionnaires will be emailed/posted to you for completion by yourself, your relatives and friends who have known you for more than 3 years.  This is to provide information on your early development and your daily life challenges.  Once these are returned, an assessment will be scheduled.
  • 2-3 hour assessments are conducted in-person, involving exploration of your early development and childhood experiences - it is recommended that you bring a friend, partner or relative with you to support you and give their perspectives.
  • Following the assessment (3-4 weeks), you will receive a detailed diagnostic report, with clear explanations of the findings and tailored recommendations for support and intervention where appropriate.  To ensure a thorough, unbiased assessment, each individual is evaluated by two clinicians from different allied health professional backgrounds (Counselling Psychologist and Specialist Occupational Therapist).  This multidisciplinary approach enhances diagnostic accuracy and aligns with evidence-based practice recommendations.
  • A 30-60 mins feedback session will be held remotely or in-person if preferred, to discuss your report and next steps i.e. whether you would like to be prescribed ADHD medications privately or are seeking assistance in seeking NHS 'Shared Care Agreements'.
